Great article. Fantastic that you got to finally see him live, and while he’s seemingly in fine form. I too hold his catalogue in deep regard; his music has always been deep, potent and fearless to me, with lyrics (that as a teen) challenged me to think, and look at things from different perspectives. His music became interwoven into the soundtrack of my life…and I find it just as gut punching as it was 25 years ago. Timeless music. As far as your bucket list to see him live? I totally get it.

I had the pleasure of seeing MM live for the first and only time at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC, 2000. Twiggy, John5 and Ginger in toe. The Guns, God and Government tour. Manson was cloaked all in black, with back feathered wings close to the shoulders; stalking the stage, swooping like a bird of prey: lithe, frightening, beautiful, dangerous. The band was tight and they punched in perfectly. But Manson? He transformed into a dark angel of doom drenched in black feathers, come to take your soul; with exacting, menacing, strong vocals, all with an incredible, complete command of the stage and crowd with showmanship second to none. He was utterly magnificent.

To this day, I count it among the best shows I’ve ever seen. And that’s a concert list that includes Prince, Sir Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Eagles, Nirvana, OutKast and even Elton John among others- and Manson, that 2000 show, sits right at the top of that list.

I’m thrilled that he appears healthy, sober and back in full form, with a great album and tour launch that’s sure to become some of his best shows in years. Irregardless of accusations and social cancelation, one really can’t deny the music. Or disregard that’s he’s truly a living rock legend…just the fact that he’s still LIVING is a minor miracle in and of itself, considering everything he’s put his body through; and put in his body.

I think everyone should see Manson, as he is now, at least once in their lifetime. And now that he is back in form, it’s bound to prove an unforgettable experience.
